Hiker struck by lightning survived after bolt entered head and exited through shoe

A hiker had an incredible escape after being struck by
lightning while taking a photo on a mountain peak.
Mathias Steinhuber was near Donna Summit in the
Sierra Nevada, California, when the bolt appeared out
of nowhere.
There was no rain or thunder in the area, but the
lightning struck him as he was walking at about
9,000ft.
It burned much off much of his clothing and sent him
tumbling down the mountainside.
A mountain rescue team with California Highway
Patrol Air Operations released footage of their search
for Mr Steinhuber, an Austrian who was visiting a
friend in the US with his girlfriend.
He was found dazed and struggling to walk and was
airlifted to hospital where doctors said he had "major
burns throughout his body".
An entry wound was found on his head and the bolt
exited through his foot, leaving his trainer in tatters.
He is now in a stable condition at the burns unit in
Davis Hospital in Sacremento.
Mr Steinhuber told the Associated Press: "It was like
in a dream.
"I woke up. I had blood everywhere, my clothes were
ripped apart."
He said he doesn't remember getting hit and that he's
been told he had more chance of winning the lottery
than being struck by lightning.
"I would've rather won the lottery," he added.
