A fleet of iconic red double-decker buses will be
shipped from Britain to Mexico City under a deal
unveiled today.
The 90, Enviro500 vehicles will be built in Surrey ad
Scotland and exported to serve the historic Paseo de
la Reforma route which experts compare with The
Mall in London.
Theresa May visited the Alexander Dennis factory in
Guildford this morning to mark a £44million contract
underwritten by British taxpayers, which supports
more than 2,000 UK jobs.
The cash is the latest slice of £1.7billion provided to
businesses by UK Export Finance to help them win
overseas deals.
The Prime Minister said: “We are building a truly
global Britain by helping UK companies win
multimillion-pound contracts to export their products
across the globe, and supporting high value jobs here
in this country.
“Since last summer, the Government has provided
over £1.7billion of backing for contracts for goods and
services and will continue to maximise investment in
the UK and seek exciting new opportunities ahead.
“From exporting iconic red double-decker buses to
Mexico, cutting-edge MRI systems to Australia or rail
equipment to Bangkok, each one is an example of a
great British success story and shows the UK is
leading the way as a great, global trading nation.
