There are less than two weeks of the transfer window
remaining as clubs from the Premier League and
beyond scrabble to get some new faces in before the
end of the month.
Everton finally landed Gylfi Sigurdsson on Wednesday
evening, but the futures of several players remain in
the balance.
The Philippe Coutinho saga rumbles on as cash-rich

Liverpool are still keen on bringing in wantaway

Barcelona director says club is
"close" to Dembele and Coutinho
deals
Barcelona are “close” to signing Philippe Coutinho
and Ousmane Dembele, according to the club’s
sporting director.
The Catalan side, who lost 2-0 to Real Madrid in the
second leg of the Spanish Super Cup on Wednesday
night, are looking to bolster their squad following the
departure of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain.
Barcelona have identified Liverpool midfielder
Coutinho and Dortmund forward Dembele as their
primary targets and look set to spend all of the
€222million they received from Neymar’s sale on new
acquisitions.
Dortmund are understood to have accepted a bid for
Dembele, 20, which could rise to as much as
€130million (£118million) with add-ons.
Liverpool are determined to hold on to Coutinho, who
signed a new five-year contract just last season, but
Barcelona feel a bid of just under £100million might
be enough.
Speaking on Wednesday night, Barcelona’s sporting
director Pep Segura admitted the club was in
conversations with both players and added he was
optimistic they would be playing at the Nou Camp
this season.
“We are close to Coutinho and Dembele, we are
discussing their conditions but we do not know when
they will be sealed,” Segura told Spanish television
station TV3. “We hope they will be Barcelona players
this season.”
Wenger insists he won't sell Oxlade-
Chamberlain
Arsene Wenger insists they will not sell Alex Oxlade-
Chamberlain to Chelsea - because he will come back
to haunt them.
Gunners boss Wenger insists Oxlade-Chamberlain has
got the potential to be the best English player within
the next two years.
Chelsea are desperate to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain
this summer and the Arsenal midfielder has only got a
year left on his contract and made it clear he will not
sign a new deal.
Blues boss Antonio Conte will make a renewed £35m
bid for Oxlade-Chamberlain to bolster his squad but
Wenger says they will resist any offers even of it
means risking losing him for free next year.

Behrami joins Udinese
Watford have sold midfielder Valon Behrami to
Udinese.
The Swiss has joined the Italian side on a two-year
deal after an undisclosed fee was agreed between the
two clubs.
Behrami joined the Hornets from Hamburg in 2015
and turned out 49 times for the Vicarage Road side.
Wenger plans to use Wilshere this
season
Arsene Wenger plans to have Jack Wilshere in his
Arsenal squad this season.
Wilshere is in the final stages of his recovery from
the fractured leg that cut short his loan spell at
Bournemouth last season.
The England midfielder played for Arsenal’s Under-23s
on Monday night and is in line for a return to first-
team action imminently.
Wenger has revealed his delight at having Wilshere
back available for selection - and says that he has
plans for him all season.
“It’s good that he is back and available,” he said.
Everton's spending not done yet
Ronald Koeman admits he is under pressure to deliver
because of Everton ’s massive spend.
Gylfi Sigurdsson ’s club-record £45million signing
from Swansea on Wednesday has taken the Blues’
summer outlay to an eyewatering £145m.
Koeman knows the flip side of such hefty backing is
that he must become a serial winner.
The Dutchman is relaxed about the weight of
expectation and happy he finally has Sigurdsson after
being priced out of a move for the Iceland playmaker
when he was in charge of Southampton.
Koeman said: “Of course, it’s always about signings
and spending money – and with that comes more
pressure.”

Van Dijk left out of Holland squad
Virgil van Dijk has been left out of the Holland squad
for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers - including the
crucial clash with France.
The centre-half, at a transfer stand-off with
Southampton, has been left out ahead of the fixtures
in Paris on August 31, and at home to Bulgaria on
September 3.
Van Dijk, 26, didn’t play for the Saints in the final
three months of last season due to injury, before
being left out of the weekend draw with Swansea as
his St Mary’s exile continues.
The ex-Celtic man, who has 12 caps to his name, has
worked his way back to fitness, but remains on the
outside looking in under new Saints boss Mauricio
Pellegrino, as he looks for a move to Liverpool.
The numbers on Sigurdsson to
Everton
Everton have completed the club-record signing of
Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea, for a fee around
£45million.
The 27-year-old Iceland midfielder put pen to paper
on a five-year contract and becomes the Toffees’
eighth summer arrival.
It is thought the move will see Everton pay £40m and
a potential further £5m in additional payments,
representing a record fee for both clubs.
Swansea had placed a £50m price tag on
Sigurdsson’s head prior to formal bids from the
Toffees and had been ready to dismiss all offers.
However, the Swans had to accept being open to
discussions once the player had signalled he was
eager to go.

Watford close in on Peru winger
Watford are close to agreeing a season-long loan deal
for Benfica’s Peruvian international winger Andre
Carrillo.
Hornets boss Marco Silva worked with £10 million-
rated Carrillo, 26, at Sporting Lisbon and Watford are
looking for an option to make the move permanent
next summer.
Silva’s transfer window deals already make the
Hornets the Premier League’s fourth biggest net
spenders at around £45m after bringing in Andre Gray,
Richarlison, Nathaniel Chalobah, Will Hughes, Tom
Cleverley and Kiko Femenia.
Next summer's free transfer XI
Talk about value for money.
On Tuesday we revealed the 109 Premier League
players (108 now, cheers Gareth Barry) who, as it
stands, will be available on a free transfer next
summer following the expiration of their contracts.
There were some huge names on the list, and so we
decided to pick a best XI from it, all in the knowledge
that it would cost us absolutely nothing to assemble
next year (we don’t like putting our hands in our
pockets, see).
Competition for places ended up being so strong that
we’ve ended up naming seven substitutes, too. And
we’re pretty confident that this matchday squad of 18
could mount a challenge for the title.

Bony set for cut-price Swansea return
Wilfried Bony is set to return to Swansea in a cut-
price £13million move as Manchester City continue
their huge clear-out of misfits.
City have already recouped £71m in the transfer
market by offloading 16 players not wanted by Pep
Guardiola.
They want to move out up to five more players, and
striker Bony will be the next to go with the Swans ,
who are selling midfield ace Gylfi Sigurdsson to
Everton for £45m, confident of bringing him back to
the Liberty Stadium.
The Welsh side believe they are close to clinching a
knock-down price £13m deal for the Ivory Coast
international, who left them for the Etihad in a £28m
deal during the January 2015 window.
Spurs dig heels in over Alli?
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has reportedly made
it clear that Dele Alli is not for sale, warning
Manchester City and Barcelona that even a
£150million bid would not be enough to land him.
The Sun report that, in the wake of Danny Rose’s
recent comments, there are fears that the club could
see their leading lights depart.
Both City and Barca have been keeping tabs on
England midfielder Alli’s situation, but Levy will dig his
heels in and fend off any bids that come his way.
This comes after reports that Chelsea are ready to bid
for Rose following this weekend’s clash against Spurs
at Wembley.

Baggies turn down City's Evans bid
Manchester City have failed with an £18million offer
for West Brom’s former Manchester United star Jonny
Evans.
West Brom rejected City’s offer for Evans last night
and are determined to hang on to their skipper.
West Brom rejected a £10million bid from Leicester
earlier this summer and will play hardball with City.
Blues boss Pep Guardiola wants to strengthen his
options at centre-half to provide additional cover for
John Stones and Vincent Kompany and feels Evans is
the right age and has the right experience.
Tony Pulis is loathe to lose the Northern Ireland
international, who has two years left on his contract
at The Hawthorns.
Pulis appointed Evans as his new captain this summer
and sees him as a key figure in his dressing room.
Evans, 29, joined United as a schoolboy and spent 11
years at Old Trafford before being offloaded by former
boss Louis van Gaal to West Brom for just £8million in
2015.
The defender has rekindled his career at The
Hawthorns and Arsene Wenger made an unsuccessful
bid to sign him last summer.
Wenger ready to make a sacrifice
over Sanchez.
Arsene Wenger insists he is ready to make a
“financial sacrifice” to keep Alexis Sanchez .
Wenger insists Sanchez will stay beyond the closing
of this transfer window on August 31, even though
Arsenal are increasingly resigned to losing him for
nothing when his contract expires next summer.
But Gunners boss Wenger claims it could be even
more costly to sell now and then replace him,
compared to losing the Chilean forward as a free
agent at the end of the season.
He said: “It is a financial sacrifice.
“It is a sacrifice that you have to calculate how much
it costs. If you let the player go and you buy
somebody, you maybe spend more than you lose.”

Spurs confident of landing Aurier
Tottenham are confident of pulling off a second
transfer coup with the £20million capture of PSG
right-back Serge Aurier.
Despite an impressive winning debut from young Kyle
Walker-Peters against Newcastle last Sunday, Spurs
still want to strengthen the position following Kyle
Walker’s £52million move to Manchester City.
The north Londoners are understood to have indicated
they are willing to pay £20million to land 24-year-old
Aurier, a target previously for Manchester United and
Chelsea.
It is believed Spurs want to give Walker-Peters time
to develop and, with Champions League commitments,
would prefer to have an experienced right-back
competing with Kieran Trippier.
