After two rounds of the Premier League, and La Liga
kicking off, clubs are now either panicking attempting
to boost their weak squads or further improve their
well oiled machines.
On the other side of the fence, Philippe Coutinho,
Diego Costa, Virgil van Dijk and Ousmane Dembele will
all be hoping their outcast status from their respective
outfits will force a move.
There are just 10 days remaining in the transfer
window and we expect them to be frantic.
Arsenal are still hoping to offload more players after
Arsene Wenger described his squad as
"unmanageable" while Jose Mourinho is hopeful of
adding at least one more player to his group.
To keep up to speed, listen to the latest Mirror
Football podcast here, with Sam Matterface, Adrian
Kajumba and Mike Walters discussing the transfers
that could still happen.

Free agents XI
The transfer window can be both a brilliant and tough
time for a footballer.
Those moving to a bigger club can look forward to
playing at a higher standard. But those who have
been deemed surplus to their club’s requirements
have their careers at stake.
Some players are eagerly snapped up by rival teams
and lower league clubs, but others are left in limbo
waiting for the right side to come along.
It’s not so bad if the player is still under contract, but
should he become a free agent then the situation can
become tricky.
More than a career can be at stake, like any normal
person, a player’s livelihood can be seriously affected.
Here are 11 free agents who could still provide sides
with a cheap alternative this summer.

City enter Gibson race
Ben Gibson is at the centre of a beat-the-deadline
£20m transfer scramble.
Leicester are interested in the Middlesbrough centre
half despite already signing Harry Maguire as they
look to rebuild their defence and bolster their squad.
Manchester City are also watching developments
closely and could turn to Gibson if their move for
West Brom’s Jonny Evans fails to materialise.
City have had an £18m bid turned down by West
Brom and they are standing firm but Pep Guardiola’s
men are desperate to bring in a centre half before the
window shuts.
West Brom have been interested in Gibson in the past
but are now battling to keep Evans who is keen on a
move to the Etihad.

Barca 'launch €130m Dembele bid'
Barcelona have reportedly had a €130m bid for

The Catalan giants remain interested in Dembele, who

But just like with Philippe Coutinho, they have been
frustrated with their pursuit.
Sky Germany reports Barca’s offer was turned down.
If, like their third bid for Coutinho, there was a small
payment up front with huge add-ons, then what do you
expect?

to go without?

with big moves in the market before the window
shuts.
Chelsea had a £15m bid for Drinkwater turned down
with Leicester demanding £40m as they insist he is a
title winner and that is market value.

Big-spending AC Milan have added Nikola Kalinic to
their ranks after agreeing a deal for the Fiorentina
striker.
The 29-year-old former Blackburn player has joined on
loan with an obligation to buy and has penned a four-
year contract at the San Siro.
The Croatia international scored 15 Serie A goals for
Fiorentina last season but failed to attend training
earlier this month as rumours of a move began to
circulate.
The Tuscans said Kalinic would be punished
according to club rules for his unexplained absence
but he has finally secured his switch.

Chelsea keen on Vardy
Chelsea are interested in signing Leicester City striker
Jamie Vardy.
Blues boss Antonio Conte is looking to boost his
firepower after last season’s top scorer Diego Costa
was deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford
Bridge.
Chelsea splashed out £67million on Alvaro Morata but
Conte is still keen to add another frontman.
However, Foxes forward Vardy, 30, fits the profile for
the Blues as an experienced player who is available
for a lower fee than someone in the peak years of
their career.

Philippe Coutinho - and could be set to move for
Liverpool’s No.1 summer target instead.
Barca chiefs were in attendance at Schalke’s 2-0 win
over RB Leipzig on Saturday.
Having been told 24 hours before that their third offer
for the Reds’ playmaker was again far from
satisfactory, Los Cules sent technical director Roberto
Fernandez and chief of scouting to Germany for the
opening day Bundesliga clash on Saturday.
The pair were at the Veltins Arena running the rule
over two midfielders as they continue to search for a
long-term heir to Andres Iniesta - whose future
continues to be uncertain - and an alternative to
Coutinho.
The duo in question are Leon Goretzka, the Schalke
midfielder, and RBL’s Naby Keita, who came face-to-
face in the heart of midfield.

Toon keeper admits transfer worry
Rob Elliot admits the ongoing debate about
Newcastle’s transfer activity could be having a
detrimental effect on those currently at St James’
Park.
After a summer of frustration in the market for boss
Rafael Benitez following last season’s promotion, the
Magpies have opened the new Premier League term
with back-to-back defeats to perhaps emphasise why
the Spaniard is so keen for more new arrivals.
It has led to plenty of airtime and column inches
dedicated to discussions over whether Newcastle are
currently equipped to survive, and Elliot will welcome
the end of the window when there will be certainty
over Benitez’s eventual group.

Wanted his move. Didn’t get it.

saying he’s still eyeing the exit....only problem being
they’re the same quotes as January.

Koavcic 'had spoken to Liverpool'
Matteo Kovacic has reportedly verbally agreed to join
Liverpool.
The Real Madrid star started less than half of his
side’s games in La Liga last season and is struggling
to force his way into Zinedine Zidane’s thinking this
time around.
Kovacic, 23, could have been seen as a replacement
for Philippe Coutinho if he had moved to Barcelona
over the summer - but that deal appears to be off.
Spanish outlet Diario Gol claim that Kovacic has
spoken to Liverpool about the possibility of joining and
would be happy to join.
However, the fact Coutinho is set to stay at Anfield
could put a blocker on the deal.
