Transfer news LIVE: Manchester United, City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea latest plus every done deal

The transfer window is into its final month, but with
clubs continuing to look to strengthen, the big-
spending is far from over.

goalposts, but Premier League spending has also
reached dizzying high levels this summer.
Yet still England's big boys are keen to further add
amid the prospect of another red-hot top four race,
while those lower down the food chain are also
looking to improve and impress.
To keep up to speed, listen to the latest Mirror
Football podcast here, with Sam Matterface, Adrian
Kajumba and Mike Walters discussing the transfers
that could still happen.
And follow all the breaking news below...
Cahill:Chelsea have signed quality but
squad size a worry
Gary Cahill is pleased to see Chelsea sign ‘quality’
players this summer but hinted he was concerned by
the small size of the squad.
The Community Shield matchday programme
highlighted just how small the Blues’ roster is.
“I don’t know, the back of the programme was
interesting today,” he said. “But in terms of quality
we’ve certainly got that and you just have to hope we
don’t have too many injuries.
“Obviously the new players that have just come,
they’re going to be vitally important for us and the
quicker they settle, the better, but there’s no doubt
we’ve added quality to the team.”

heading to Crystal Palace on loan for the season.

van Gaal but made just four appearances in the
Premier League last season under Jose Mourinho .
The 19 year-old was an unused substitute for the
Europa League final against former club Ajax in May.
He has been used by Mourinho as an alternative to
Antonio Valencia at right-back during pre-season.
But Fosu-Mensah is now set for a temporary switch
to Selhurst Park for more regular first-team action, as
United continue to wait on PSG defender Serge Aurier.

The Arsenal midfielder did just that on Sunday night
and eagle-eyed Liverpool fans picked up on it
instantly.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, who played at left-back in
Arsenal’s penalty shoot-out Community Shield victory
over Chelsea , is a player Jurgen Klopp has kept tabs
on in recent months.
The 23-year-old has just a year remaining on his
contract at the Emirates and has so far refused to
sign a new deal.

Newcastle struggling to free up cash
to buy players
Rafael Benitez’s efforts to rebuild his Newcastle
squad for life back in the Premier League are being
hampered by his failure to offload some of the men
bought for a promotion push.
The Spaniard was allowed to spend heavily by
second-tier standards last summer as he re-invested
much of the proceeds from the sales of Moussa
Sissoko, Georginio Wijnaldum and Andros Townsend
to assemble a group of players to mount an ultimately
successful title charge.
Some of those players - most notably Matt Ritchie,
Isaac Hayden and Dwight Gayle - will play significant
roles in the top flight, but others find themselves
surplus to requirements with the likes of Grant Hanley
and Achraf Lazaar, as well as Emmanuel Riviere and
Henri Saivet, who were inherited by Benitez, having
been told they can leave.
However, Press Association Sport understands that
while there has been interest in some of those men,
the lucrative wage deals which saw them move to St
James’ Park have proved a major obstacle to their
departure.
Owner Mike Ashley, who insisted in the wake of
promotion that his manager would receive “every
penny” the club generated from promotion and player
sales, has always sought value for money during his
tenure and the prospect of paying salaries to squad
members who have little chance of involvement is not
an appetising one.
Benitez, not for the first time this summer, admitted
his frustration at his struggles after Sunday’s 2-0
friendly victory over Hellas Verona.
He said: “When I decided to stay, I was expecting
another thing. Now we are where we are. I decided to
stay because of a lot of positive things I could see,
starting with the fans. “I will try to do my best to be
sure that the team we have will be good enough to
compete and stay as high as we can in the Premier
League.”

Barcelona 'to rival Arsenal for Lemar'
Arsenal’s chances of signing Monaco’s Thomas Lemar
seem to have taken a turn for the worse with L’Equipe
reporting Barcelona are also interested.
The Spanish club are looking for a Neymar
replacement and have €222million to spend from that
sale.
Coutinho remains their first choice but Lemar is said
to be their back up option.

Stoke hopeful over Choupo-Moting
Stoke City hope to avoid any last-minute hitches and
wrap up the signing of Cameroon forward Eric Maxim
Choupo-Moting, report the Stoke Sentinel.
Choupo-Moting is one of Europe’s most-wanted free
agents after leaving Schalke at the end of his
contract this summer and has reportedly been on the
radar of AC Milan.
But Stoke have lined up the quick and strong 28-year-
old to fill the void left by Marko Arnautovic’s £25m
departure to West Ham.
Talks have been held and the Potters hope to push
through a three-year deal on Monday – but Mark
Hughes was refusing to take anything for granted
after seeing his side beat RB Leipzig 2-1 in his final
pre-season friendly.
“He’s a player we’ve got an interest in and it’s one of
those we’re hopeful of getting over the line,” said
Hughes
“You can never say it’s done until it is. I’ve had
experiences where clubs have just jumped in at the
last moment when you’ve done all the work and
they’re able to convince players. We’ll just hang fire
until it’s actually official.”

Jeremain Lens signs for Besiktas
Jeremain Lens has completed his move from
Sunderland to Besiktas.
The Dutch winger was always likely to leave following
relegation from the Barclays Premier League and has
been in Turkey in recent days to finalise the switch.
He arrived at the Stadium of Light in the summer of
2015 with high hopes but ended up with just 16 starts
to his name and spent most of last season on loan at
Fenerbahce.
The 29-year-old will continue to play his football in
Istanbul after Besiktas agreed an undisclosed fee with
the Black Cats.
A brief statement from the club read: “Jeremain Lens
has completed his move to Besiktas.
“The Dutchman joins the Turkish club after two years
on Wearside, where he made 24 appearances for the
Black Cats, netting four goals.”

United revive Fabinho interest?
An update from our sister paper the Manchester Evening
News.
Fabinho has been linked with a move to Manchester
United all summer.
The Monaco defender/midfielder has seen the former
teammates such as Bernardo Silva and Benjamin
Mendy leave - but the Ligue 1 champions have
insisted he isn’t for sale.
Having pursued other targets, reports now claim Jose
Mourinho is interested in taking the Brazilian to
Manchester.
Don Balon report United were interested in Paris St
Germain right-back Serge Aurier but a potential deal
‘fell through’ because the Ivorian’s criminal conviction
means he would struggle to get a working visa.
Mourinho has reportedly instructed Ed Woodward to
go out and secure Fabinho.

Leeds loan Borthwick-Jackson
Leeds have completed the signing of Manchester
United left-back Cameron Borthwick-Jackson on a
season-long loan.
The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Wolves.
Stoke to sign Indi
Reports in Holland say Stoke City have finally reached
an agreement to sign Bruno Martins Indi from FC
Porto, report the Stoke Sentinel.
The Dutch star was also being courted by Crystal
Palace, now managed by his compatriot Frank de
Boer.
But De Telegraaf report that Stoke was always his
preference and now an agreement has finally been
struck between Stoke and FC Porto.
Porto were hanging out for 12m euros, but De
Telegraaf say a figure of 8m euros (approx £7.24m)
has now been agreed between the two clubs.

Barcelona 'to offer player as part
exchange' for Coutinho
Barcelona have not given up on signing Philippe
Coutinho from Liverpool and could be prepared to
offer a player as well as cash to secure his services.
The Spanish giants are desperately seeking a new
forward after Paris Saint-Germain activated Neymar’s
€222million release clause and took the Brazilian to
the Parc des Princes.
Coutinho is Barcelona’s first choice to replace Neymar
but are finding it difficult to persuade Liverpool to
sell.
All Barcelona’ approaches have so far been rebuffed
with Jurgen Klopp insisting none of his star players
will be sold this summer.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reports Barcelona
would be prepared to offer a player as well as money
in exchange for Coutinho.
The man they are reported to be offering is
Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes, who has failed
to impress since his switch from Valencia in 2016.
