Taylor Swift drops surprise new single Ready For It - and it looks like it's about an ex

Much has been made of the inspiration, lyrics and
video for her last single, Look What You Made Me Do.
And it looks like Taylor Swift is going to cause just as
big a storm with her latest release, Ready For It -
which she sprung on fans on Sunday.
Releasing the single in a surprise move on Sunday,
just over a week after she dropped her comeback
song, the 28-year-old pop star appeared to put her ex-
boyfriend(s) firmly in the firing line once again.
The pop star surprised fans as a clip from her
upcoming track was played during an American
football game between Alabama and Florida State -
and the song was made available hours later.
It is the second release from her forthcoming album
Reputation, which will be out in November. And while
the song has gone down well with her loyal, and
millions strong, followers.
And those very same fans' were instantly captured by
some of the song's lyrics, which appeared to throw
shade on an ex.
"Knew he was a killer. First time that I saw him.
Wonder how many girls he had left and left haunted,"
she sings.
And things take an even harder tone as she continues:
"Knew I was a robber/ First time that he saw me/
Stealing hearts and running off and never saying
'sorry'.
"But if I'm a thief then/ He can join the heist and/
We'll move to an island/ and, and, he can be my
jailer/ Burton to his Taylor/ Every love I've known in
comparison is a failure/ I forget their names now/ I'm
so very tame now/ never be the same now..."
But with a long list of A-List bad boys in her dating
history - Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer and Harry Styles
are amongst the names - it would seem impossible to
pick who she is throwing shade at, though her latest
ex is Tom Hiddleston, so it may be the Loki actor's
turn for some lyrical mud-slinging.
Taylor is currently loved-up with British actor
Within hours of release the track reached number
three on the iTunes chart, where Look What You
Made Me Do is at number one.
The video for Look What You Made Me Do shattered
streaming records after it premiered at the MTV Video
Music Awards on August 27.
The clip had the biggest debut of any video in
YouTube history, clocking 43.2 million views in 24
hours. It now has more than 165 million views.
The single landed Swift her first UK number one on
the singles chart. Fans expressed their excitement at
the surprise release, with one writing on Twitter: "Was
not ready for Taylor Swift to release #ReadyForIt
warms up voice IN THE MIDDLE OF THE
NIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT."
