Chilling CCTV shows a homeless man 'dressed as a
ninja' crawling through a family's garden before
launching a brutal knife attack that left a mum and
her son dead.
The footage shows Aaron Barley lurking outside the
home as dad Peter Wilkinson took the family's dog for
a walk.
During the attack, the 24-year-old fatally stabbed Mr
Wilkinson's wife Tracey, 50, and son Pierce, 13, before
ambushing the businessman as he returned home.
PROMOTED STORIES
Barley stabbed Mr Wilkinson, 47, during a struggle,
shouting "Die you b*****d" as he knifed him six times.
Just hours earlier Barley had tried to break into the
family's home, but it was locked.
CCTV shows Barley, dressed in a black "ninja" outfit,
returning later in the morning, at about 6.30am on
March 30, as he crawled through the garden to avoid
being seen.
He then waited in the garden shed as Mr Wilkinson
left the house in Stourbridge, West Midlands, to walk
the family's pet greyhound, leaving the kitchen door
open.
The killer emerges and is seen just a few steps behind
Mr Wilkinson before creeping into the home.
Barley, 24, pleaded guilty to two counts of murder at
Birmingham Crown Court today after previously
admitting the attempted murder of businessman Mr
Wilkinson.
He had been taken into the family home after Tracey
had spotted him living rough outside a Tesco
supermarket in the town.
Barley was fed, helped with accommodation and even
given a job with the family business.
Barley, whose parents died when he was young, called
Mrs Wilkinson “the mother that I never had” and spent
last Christmas with them and their children Lydia, 19,
and Pierce.
But their kindness backfired in tragic circumstances
three months later when Barley inexplicably carried
out the horror attack.
During the attack, Barley went upstairs to murder Mrs
Wilkinson, who was stabbed 17 times with two kitchen
knives, and her teenage son in their bedrooms - and
then waited to ambush her husband as he returned
home.
Barley was caught on CCTV attacking company
director Mr Wilkinson, who was married to his wife for
18 years.
The footage showed Barley repeatedly stabbing him
as he stumbled backwards into the garden.
Mr Wilkinson was left clinging to life in hospital but
miraculously survived.
His daughter Lydia was studying at university in
Bristol and first learned about the tragedy after
searching "Stourbridge stabbings" on Google and
seeing a photo of her family's home surrounded by
police tape.
After he was arrested, Barley told police officers: “I
chopped them up. It was a f****** mess. I killed them
and I’m glad I did it.
“I’m pleased that I got two but I’m upset that I did not
get him (Peter). There were three in the house and
two did not walk out.
“I should have stayed and finished him off. I thought it
was done.”
Detectives are baffled as to why he decided to attack
the family. Mrs Wilkinson, a former ballroom dancer,
told a colleague he threatened to kill her after she
spotted him loitering outside the family home.
Barley, who had a child in his teens, attended an
alcohol rehab centre where she had received
treatment and later volunteered.
But the chance encounter outside Tesco was the first
time they met - and the moment she decided to help
him.
Barley eventually fled in the family’s Land Rover and
crashed into a nearby garden wall after a police
chase.
The family had helped him get a council hostel bed,
paid his phone bills and made him daily breakfasts
and dinners.
