Sex fiend posing as Good Samaritan rapes woman he offers lift to a month after being released from prison

A sex attacker recently released from jail posed as a
Good Samaritan to offer a distraught woman a lift but
then raped her in a lay-by.
Wayne Hobell admitted two counts of rape yesterday
after he approached a woman, 21, in Leicester city
centre who was upset after a row with her boyfriend
on November 20.
Having been released for a previous sex assault
offence the previous month, Hobell offered the
woman a lift.
PROMOTED STORIES
Hobell, 45, of no fixed address, then drove the victim
out of the city along the A6 and stopped his car in a
layby in Oadby where he tied her up and raped her,
Leicester Mercury reports.
Hobell had been previously jailed in 2004 after he
forced his way into a student home in the Narborough
Road area of Leicester.
He tied up two young women and sexually assaulted
them.
Detective Inspector Michelle Keen who led the
investigation, said: “This was an horrendous attack on
a young vulnerable woman who put her trust into
Hobell. He posed as a good Samaritan but his
intention appeared clear from the outset.
“The victim has been extremely brave and supportive
of the police investigation throughout the process -
this was in no way easy for her and whilst the impact
of this horrendous ordeal will remain with her forever,
I am hopeful that this outcome may now provide a
degree of closure and allow her to move forward from
the events of last November.
“We would like to take this opportunity to reassure
anyone who may have been a victim of sexual
offences that their report will be taken seriously and
we have specialist officers who can guide you through
the whole process and also put you in touch with
support agencies.”
The court heard Hobell was also charged with
grabbing another young woman a week earlier on
November 14 and putting his hand over her mouth
before she fought him off and fled.
But Hobell pleaded not guilty to attempted kidnap and
common assault with the intent to commit rape and
the charges are expected to “lie on file” with no
further action.
He also denied a charge of attempted burglary on
October 30 last year and no further action is expected
on that charge, either.
The case was adjourned for psychiatric reports and
Hobell was remanded in custody to be sentenced on
Thursday, November 23.
