Senior Tory members have expressed concerns they
are still in the dark over key issues surrounding
Britain’s departure from the EU with only three weeks
to go before trade talks are likely to begin.
The ministers even praised Boris Johnson for
highlighting the divide between key Leave and Remain
Tories when the Foreign Secretary outlined his post-
Brexit Britain vision in a Daily Telegraph article.
It is feared cracks will begin to appear in Theresa
May’ s Government as ministers squabble over key
issues such as Britain’s Brexit divorce bill, immigration,
and market access.
While Brexit Secretary David Davis and Mr Johnson
insist there will be no payments for market access,
Chancellor Philip Hammond has warned this could be
up for negotiation.

Tensions could also emerge between Environment
Secretary Michael Gove, who wants to take control of
some industries in 2019, and Home Secretary Amber
Rudd, who says the UK will have to seek EU consent.
Others are clashing over maintaining EU laws to
ensure labour standards, data protection and
environmental protection, which would go against calls
by Brexiteers.
This is further heightened by the fact Mrs May is
expected to follow the status quo across most aspects
of the economy until 2021, which will not signal real
change until the next General Election.
One minister told The Times: “Once we leave the
transition period we can take decisions slowly and at
our own pace over the next few years about what we
change.”

Another added: “We love the idea that Britain is
overburdened with a raft of regulations we’d scrap
tomorrow but this isn’t going to happen.
“We actually quite like our regulatory environment. The
real debate is going to be about new regulations.”
Mrs May is today facing calls to resign as Prime
Minister after she delivered her keynote speech at the
Conservative Party Conference on Wednesday.
In what was was supposed to draw the line under her
disappointing snap election campaign, Mrs May saw
her “British dream” scuppered by a prankster, a terrible
cough and a broken set.
