Chelsea have finally sold Diego Costa to Atletico
Madrid in a staggering £67million deal.
That means the Blues have more than doubled their
money on Costa after signing him from Atletico for
£32m in 2014.
The 28-year-old won two Premier League titles in
three years at Stamford Bridge, during which time he
became one of the most controversial figures in the
history of the Premier League.
But despite going AWOL this summer and refusing to
return to the club, Chelsea have still managed to
hammer out one of the year's best pieces of transfer
business.
They feared Costa would be virtually unsellable after
the window shut and were stuck with a sulking player
who made it clear he would never play for manager
Antonio Conte again.
However, Chelsea finally gave the green light for
Costa to return to Madrid on Thursday to undergo a
medical after agreeing terms on an incredible deal.
Atletico will pay a £60m fee which will rise to £67m
with add-ons - even though he cannot play for them
until January because of their ongoing transfer
embargo.

That means that while he will train with Atletico,
Chelsea will technically hold his registration until the
Spanish side are in a position to complete the
transaction.
Chelsea confirmed in a statement: “Chelsea Football
Club has today agreed terms with Atletico Madrid for
the transfer of Diego Costa. The transfer will be
subject to the agreement of personal terms and a
medical.”
Atletico will register him when the window opens and
Costa, whose previous spell there began in 2009,
could then make his second debut against Getafe on
January 7.
The deal brings to an end one of the longest running
sagas of the summer, which began when Costa had a
training ground bust-up with Conte in January after
Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian made a
huge offer which would have seen him earn £600,000-
a-week.
Conte has insisted Costa was told he would have to
stay, play until the end of the season and then he
would be sold in the summer.
Costa went public while on duty with Spain, and
claimed Conte told him — via a text message! — that
he was no longer in Chelsea’s plans.
The Brazilian-born player refused to return to Chelsea
from South America, insisted he would only join
Atletico and posted regular pictures of himself
partying throughout the summer.
But despite the ugly stand-off, the champions have
now done a deal which represents a massive profit on
the wayward star.
