Jeremy Corbyn’s right-hand man pledged to deliver a
“radical” Labour government at this year’s party
conference.
But the outspoken Marxist appears to lack the courage
of his convictions after admitting to using Amazon
after previously pledging to “force” the shopping
website to “pay their fair share of taxes”.
Caught on his way into the party conference,
Newsnight’s John Sweeney first asked if Mr McDonnell
used the taxi-hailing app Uber, following the decision
by Transport for London (TfL) to revoke their operating
licence.
Mr McDonnell said: “Not that I’m aware of.
“On the challenge to Uber obviously I can’t comment
on the legal challenge itself, but the issue is down to
the company.

“TfL implements the regulations, if the company isn’t
abiding by the regulations it should address that.
But asked about his use of Amazon, he said:
“Sometimes, sometimes I believe”.
And when the Newsnight journalist accused him of
being “a bit naughty”, he quickly tried to change the
subject.
Mr McDonnell said: “Well I’ve been taking on their tax
campaign as well that’s right, so I’m quite considered
about it.

“It is difficult, you have moral choices to make and

have been using that because it’s cheap etcetera.

“But there’s a lot of people waking up to the fact that,
well because of TfL’s ruling there are real issues that
have to be addressed so I think the moral pressure on
any company like that is to get within the regulations
itself”.
Earlier in the programme union leader Len McCluskey
denied the party has a problem with anti-Semitism –
only to be told he is wrong by party members.
Mr McCluskey dismissed allegations of anti-Jewish
sentiment within the party, saying it was just "mood
music" created by people who opposed Jeremy
Corbyn.
The General Secretary of Unite the Union said:
"Unfortunately, at the time there were lots of people
playing games.

“Everybody wanted to create this image that Jeremy
Corbyn's Labour had become misogynistic and anti-
Semitic because they wanted to bring Jeremy Corbyn
down."
But he was challenged by shadow Attorney General
Baroness Chakrabarti, who carried out an investigation
into anti-Semitism in Labour last year.
She looked saddened as she was confronted with his
comments on Newsnight, which was filmed at the
Labour party Conference in Brighton.
She said: "With the greatest of respect to Len, I was
the person charged with investigating this, It wasn't
Len.
“I have seen things which Len hasn't seen. I would ask
Len to read my report.”
