Season four is likely to focus on the Juarez Cartel and
Amado Carrillo Fuentes in the show, that follows the
rise of the cocaine trade in Colombia and the gripping
real-life stories of drug kingpins.
The programme’s creators have been open about
naming the show Narcos instead of Escobar to allow
them to outlive Pablo Escobar's real-life death.
Season three featured a meeting between the Juarez
head and Cali Cartel’s Pacho Herrera, ending with a
scene from the Rio Grande and Javier Pena’s DEA
agent conversing with his father about Mexico.
This leads to the fact that a location scout was
exploring areas in Mexico to film season four to focus
on this new plot.

In an
interview with Heavy, Pêpê Rapazote, who played one
of the Cali godfathers, said that he thinks the show
will “go back in time” for the new series and will
“focus on the early days of Mexican cartels, Juarez".
It comes as Narcos star Pedro Pascal told that the hit
Netflix show cannot continue unless the studio
ensures that it is safe for the cast and crew.
Show location scout Carlos Muñoz Portal, 37, was
found shot dead in his car last month after searching
for filming locations in a rural area of Mexico for
season four.
Authorities say it is unclear whether there was a
motive for the murder, but that the area has a high
murder rate.
Pedro, who plays DEA agent Javier Peña, said
producers would now need to “figure out” a way to
protect the show’s staff.
