Troy Deeney charged with violent conduct and faces ban after gouging Joe Allen's cheek

Troy Deeney faces a three-match ban for gouging Joe
Allen's cheek with his thumb.
Watford skipper Deeney was booked by referee
Michael Oliver for his stoppage-time skirmish with the
Wales midfielder in the Hornets' 1-0 defeat by Stoke.
But he faces retrospective action from the Football
Association, who have charged him after reviewing
the flashpoint today.
PROMOTED STORIES
Former World Cup referee Graham Poll branded
Deeney's conduct “disgraceful” - and Potters manager
Mark Hughes believes the FA should step in.
Stoke boss Hughes was not impressed by Deeney's
action on his midfielder.
Hughes said: "Obviously we've kicked the ball out
because there were injured players, and they
should've given the ball back to us, but they shaped
up to put it in our box - which was not in the spirit of
the game, and that's why our players reacted. It's not
pleasant when you see that.
"He's grabbing him by the face, it's not what you
want to see. As I say, our reaction is understandable
because we were the aggrieved party, but it hasn't
covered him in any kind of good light, in my view.
PLAY
"I think we need to avoid situations like that, and he
brought it on himself really."
Joe Allen laughed off Deeney gouging his cheek in
the battle of claw and order at Vicarage Road,
admitting: “I have a bad habit of picking the wrong
fights.”
Allen insisted: “It was handbags really and there was
nothing to it. I like Troy, he's one of the good guys,
he's a really good player and it was nothing personal.
“We were clinging on at the end and expecting the
ball back because we had a man down injured, they
were chasing the equaliser and decided to play on.
“I was disappointed to get a yellow card because it
means I'm now walking a bit of a tightrope, but these
things happen and there wasn't really anything to it.
“He's a big guy and we were both laughing – I knew I
was beaten in that situation, but I have a bit of a bad
habit of picking the wrong fights!”
