Tory Lord SHAMES peers for shock new attempt to thwart Brexit with Repeal Bill block

Lord Flight slammed a group of peers for criticising the Repeal Bill that would see EU legislation transposed into UK law after Brexit. Dismissing claims the bill would give ministers "excessive power", he told RT UK : "There’s a lot of Henry VIII powers which give ministers absolute powers. The only point in the other direction is that we’ve been living with this stuff as EU rules forced on us anyway without particularly complaining about it. "It’s quite ironic that apparently, it’s ok to all be put through without any parliamentary debate when it was EU rules but when it comes to using our own legislature we expect to abide by our own standards." The Repeal Bill would transpose EU law into UK legislation The Repeal Bill is a form of primary legislation that would give UK ministers delegated powers to draft orders and regulations – also known as secondary regulation. The report sets out proposals that would give committees in the Commons and Lords the abil...

'No-one represents betrayed Brexiteers' Ukip attacked for accepting transition period

Image
Matthew Goodwin, who teaches at the University of Kent, hit out at Ukip's new leader for suggesting a transition deal with the EU was needed to avoid a "car crash". Speaking to Niall Paterson on Sky News, the politics professor said this policy shift would relegate Ukip to the books of history. He told Paterson there was a massive proportion of the British population who have felt left behind by the "betrayal of Brexit" led by the British political class. 'Prepare to leave EU NOW' Ukip leader Bolton calls on May to walk away from Brexit

Mr Bolton, who was newly elected yesterday at the annual conference, said that as 17.4 million people had voted to leave, the party had a “moral obligation to ensure that we do.” He launched a savage attack on the Conservative Prime Minister who he criticised for wanting to leave the EU “only in name” and adding that she had “no intention of taking us out” following her Florence speech plans for a two year transition period. He said: "She claimed she offered strong and stable leadership - oh well. Unfortunately for the country and many of our previous supporters trusted her. "So 14 months after the referendum, so have we come any closer to regaining control of our borders? Are we able to agree our own trade agreements? It is understood the Government is also exploring ways to give students incentives to study subjects that “plug the skills gap” by offering lower fees, better interest rates and grants to budding engineers, scientists and doctors. Promising to “build a better future for our country,” Mrs May also announced additional funding for the Government’s Help To Buy scheme, which will help 135,000 more young people get on the property ladder. End of the EU? Nationalists could storm to power in Austrian election thanks to THIS man

Image
Sebastian Kurz, also known as "Wunderwuzzi" has successfully rebranded the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) and looks set to propel them into Government in the coming elections. The vote could spell trouble for the EU as 31-year-old Mr Kurz has not ruled out a partnership with the nationalist Freedom Party (FPO). The hard right group almost seized power in the presidential elections last year sending waves of fear across the bloc. Now, the parties could join making a right wing partnership which would challenge the bloc’s ideologies. The coalition between the ruling Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) of Chancellor Christian Kern and the ÖVP collapsed in May. Professor Peter Filzmaier, a political scientist with Austria's Krems and Graz universities, said Mr Kurz’s rebranding of the ÖVP is "unprecedented in Austrian politics, but also quite logical." He told Die Welt: "The SPÖ and the ÖVP deciding not to govern together means there is an actual chance of...

'It's just words!' Former Irish PM SAVAGES UK's generous offer to EU

Image
The ex-Irish PM John Burton claimed it would be a good idea for the UK to continue to pay into the EU for another six years, rather than the proposed two-year transitional period after Brexit . Mr Burton said: “I think we need to know first of all, what relationship Britain wants with the European Union. Talking about a bespoke partnership, that’s just words. "It doesn’t contain any of the detail as to whether, for example, the EU standards would be applied in Britain and could be invigilated by the European Court of Justice. “I think any transition agreement will have to be approved by all 27 members of the European Union and perhaps by their parliaments.
